How to manage the employee scorecard

Carta Total Compensation's Employee Scorecard provides a detailed view of how an individual employee’s compensation compares to the market based on the company’s compensation philosophy.

To access the company scorecard, navigate to Total Compensation > Reports.

The columns along the top of the scorecard represent all the dimensions of an employee’s scorecard view.

Name

Employee’s Name

Job Title

Employee’s job title

Area

Employee’s job discipline/area (e.g. Sales, Engineering, Finance)

Specialization

Corresponding to the job area

Level

Track and level in the Total Comp Leveling system

Tenure

Employee’s tenure with the company, in years

Salary

Annual salary from HR system

Salary Target

Equal to the Market position on the Benchmarks page

Salary Ratio

Employee’s compensation ratio for salary. Simply, the employee’s salary in relation to the target salary.

NTM Equity

Equity that employee will actively vest over the Next Twelve Months (NTM), which is annualized to smooth out any vesting spikes or cliffs

NTM Equity Target

Equal to the Market position on the Benchmarks page

Equity Ratio

Employee’s compensation ratio for equity. Simply, the employee’s equity in relation to the target equity.

Total Equity

Aggregate of all employee equity in the company, vested and unvested

Score

The stakeholder’s total compensation score This is an aggregation of an employee’s equity score, and salary score. For example, an employee with a high equity score and a low salary score may find themselves with a mid score for their Total Compensation.

Location

Employee’s location (used for geo-adjustment)

International currency

The Scorecard evaluates the salary and equity of both US and non-US based employees. Users can toggle between local currency and USD by clicking the checkbox at the top of the page for all cash compensation values

Employee information

Click on an employee from the list on the Reports page to open the employees scorecard.

On the top left of the employee scorecard view you will find employee details including the employee’s:

  • Name

  • Title

  • Level (job area, track, and level)

  • Geo-location

  • Total Rewards benefits packages

The dark blue oval displays the geo-adjustment for cost of labor for the employee’s location both within the US and internationally.

Annual compensation breakdown

The Annual compensation breakdown displays both a visual chart of an employee’s compensation distribution and a table view of the employee’s compensation for salary and equity. The table also includes the target benchmark value, and the resulting compa-ratio for each type of compensation.

Clicking Preview Total Rewards above the Annual compensation breakdown section will provide Total Rewards insights for the individual employee.

Equity breakdown and Equity compensation timeline

The Equity breakdown displays an employee’s vested and unvested equity compensation in the same manner as the Annual compensation breakdown. In addition to the amount of equity in each category, the chart also shares when the employee last vested equity, and when their equity will become fully vested.

The Equity compensation timeline shows a graphical representation of the vesting schedule of any equity awards granted to the employee.

Compensation evaluation

At the bottom of the employee scorecard view are the employee’s Equity Band and Salary Band, which display how the employee compares to the peer group benchmark.

The Target value represents the exact 1.00 median value. The Low and High values represent the low and high bands for the employee’s track.

The Compensation matrix displays the employee’s compensation compared to other employees at the same company.
