How to update your Carta account or portfolio name
If your legal name has changed, or you simply need to update your name in Carta, here's how to cover your bases across your account, portfolio, and holdings.
✏️ Update your name in your account profile (user settings)
Click your name in the upper right corner and select User Settings from the dropdown.
Click into the Name and signature tab.
Click the three dots to the right of your name and click Edit.
Enter your updated name and click Save.
🔄 Alternative: update your account name from your portfolio
You can also update your name directly from your portfolio's profile — this works the same way, just from a different starting point, and syncs back to your account profile for eligible accounts:
Open your portfolio and click Settings in the left sidebar → General.
On the Portfolio profile tab, click Edit next to Personal information.
Update your name and save.
Update your name on your portfolio
If you have a single, individually-owned personal portfolio (not jointly held, not a trust), the name shown in your account dropdown updates automatically once you update your name in your account profile above — no support ticket needed.
If your account has multiple portfolios, is jointly held, or is a trust, you'll need to contact our support team to update the name shown in your account dropdown.
Use Carta Help to submit a support ticket or call +1 (650) 669-8381, Monday–Friday, 6 a.m.–5 p.m. PT.
🏛 Contact your issuing company to update your name on your securities
For securities already issued to you, the issuing company must update your legal name. Click here to learn how to contact them directly through your Carta account.
